Written by Cindy Gaudet and illustrated by Jennifer Brown. Cindy Gaudet belongs to a strong lineage of Métis women's families along the South Saskatchewan River and family communities near Bellevue, Batoche, St.Laurent, St.Louis and Hoey, Seaskatchewan. Jennifer Brown is a Metis woman born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Her ancestry is directly tied to the Red River Settlement in Manitoba; when her family settled in Saskatchewan they resided in the St.Louis and Gerrond area.
The Giggle Tent is a trilingual picture book in English, Michif and French, inspired by the real-life experiences of Métis women gathering in ceremony, laughter and love. Set on the ancestral river lands of Batoche, Saskatchewan, it celebrates sisterhood, storytelling, community and the strength found in connection. The story grew from Cindy Gaudet’s experience co-leading a gathering of Michif women and creating a safe and loving space known as the “Giggle Tent.”
