Description

Written by Cindy Gaudet and illustrated by Leah Marie Dorion. Cindy Gaudet belongs to a strong lineage of Métis women's families along the South Saskatchewan River and family communities near Bellevue, Batoche, St.Laurent, St.Louis and Hoey, Seaskatchewan. Leah Marie Dorion is an interdisciplinary Metis artist raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. A teacher, painter, filmmaker and published writer, Leah views her Metis heritage as providing her with a unique bridge for knowledge between all people.

Moon Time Prayer follows Sparrow, a young Métis girl who receives teachings about womanhood from her auntie and grandmother. Through their stories and teachings about women's Moon Time, the book offers an inspiring Indigenous perspective on menstruation, womanhood and the sacred feminine. The book also includes a 28-day moon journal and features artwork by Leah Dorion.

"This is such an important book, as it will assist us in reclaiming traditions of the sacred feminine that once were common among our peoples. Every girl should have a copy!" Kim Anderson, Cree/Métis author of "A Recognition of Being: Reconstructing Native Womanhood" and "Life Stages and Native women: Memory, Teachings, and Story Medicine."

Also includes Foreword by Grandmother Isabelle Meawasige, Author Note, and Discussion Points. Audience: Ages 9-12.
