Tonya Simpson is of Scottish and Cree ancestry. She is a member of Pasqua First Nation and was born and raised in central Alberta. Tonya is an anthropologist who loves to write stories that connect families with each other and the natural world around them. She is the author of Forever Our Home and This Land Is a Lullaby, winner of the Governor General's Literary Award. Tonya lives with her family at Pigeon Lake in Westerose, Alberta. Mando Littlechild is a Treaty 6 Nehiyaw First Nations artist from Maskwacis, Alberta. They are Two Spirit and non-binary. Mando works in many mediums but specializes in painting, digital illustrations and comics. They are the illustrator of pêyak little duck.
Spending the day with Kohkom is special. She will braid your hair, show you how to make beaded earrings and ribbon skirts, teach you her bannock recipe (don't forget to knead it with love!) and share her Knowledge. She will tell you about her childhood and share funny family stories. Even though Kohkom might forget your name, you always know that she loves you.
