Description
Cree Narrative: Expressing the Personal Meanings of Events is based on the oral traditions of James Bay Cree Elder John Blackned collected by the author during the 1960s. The stories and accounts of this Waskaganish informatant provides an historical account of the James Bay Cree from the period of the fur trade to the early 1900s. There is also a biography of John Blackned included. The result is an integrated picture of Cree thought, feelings, and beliefs relating to living on and with the land. For this expanded reissue of his pioneering work in cognitive anthropology, Richard Preston has added four new chapters. He contextualizes his original research and provides historical and social context for the Waskaganish area during the time of his fieldwork in the 1960s. Richard Preston is professor emeritus of anthropology, McMaster University.
