Description
Under a Shooting Star by children's author Maxine Trottier is the third historical novel in the Circle of Silver Chronicles is set during the War of 1812. Edward Wolf MacNeil, a fifteen-year-old Canadian of British and Oneida heritage, escorts two sisters Kate and Anne Kimmerling across Lake Erie to their relatives in Ohio. A raging storm grounds the boat on an island where the son of Shawnee leader Tecumseh offers the three safety and shelter. It is here on the island that Edward learns about the war between Britain and the Americans. Edward supports the British and the girls are staunch Americans but they vow to remain friends forever. Ideas about pacifism, friendship, and courage are introduced to this adventure story. Edward is a well-drawn character who draws on his British identity and relationships as well as his Oneida connections. Highly recommended.
