"Honouring Misko Aanakwad Giizis Ikwe (Red Cloud Sun Woman), Rebecca (Beccy) Drewniak, my auntie who has always been a nurturing guide in my life. Through her life journey and her professional work, she has gained wisdom and knowledge, which she shares in a good way, just as it was shared with her. She continues to uplift and inspire families. I am grateful to share Colour Through Me with my Auntie Beccy.”
“For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to creative expression — through music, art, and dance. Creativity has always been my way of understanding myself and the world around me. When words were not enough, colour and art helped me give shape to my emotions. When my son was young, he had difficulty communicating and began to use colours as a way to express himself. Like me, he is also drawn to colours — particularly purple. I began to wonder what purple meant to him and how it made him feel. That curiosity inspired me to create Colour Through Me — a book that helps children express their feelings through colour. Colours are a language of their own. They guide us, teach us, and remind us that the world is bright and beautiful. Be creative! Creativity lives within all of us — it is part of our DNA, from petroglyphs to woven baskets to painted tipis, and so much more". Colour Through Me invites readers on a heartfelt journey through the language of colour. Rooted in teachings, creativity, and reverence for Mother Earth, this book celebrates the beauty, wisdom, and emotions that colours awaken within us. When words fall short, colour speaks - guiding children and adults alike to understand and express what lives inside their hearts.
