‘Indigenous Communities in Canada: Inuit Community’ is an elementary level information book from Beech Street Books about the past and present-day culture and history of the Inuit in Canada who live in four regions known as Inuit Nunangat. Inuit are discussed through their language and importance of children and family. Buildings and dwellings discuss homes built at different times of the year following migration patterns and contemporary Inuit homes. Materials, tools and transportation focus on clothing, seasonally transport such as foot, dogsled, and boats, and historical as well as contemporary trading. The spiritual aspect of Inuit culture, naming and storytelling, games and sport and Inuit art is discussed in the chapter on beliefs, culture and traditions. The text uses colour images and content that introduces primary and junior level students to the Inuit and their territory.
