Ukaliq and Kalla Help Out is a 28-page English language reader in Inhabit Education's Nunavummi Reading Series. This is a unique Nunavut-made levelled reading series that aligns the reading expectations of the Inuit language, English, and French. The reading series corresponds closely to the reading levels and expectations developed by the Department of Education in Nunavut. This approach to literacy provides educators and parents the tools they need to ensure that children are equally challenged and successful in all the languages represented in Nunavut. The reoccurring characters Kalla and Ukaliq visit their friend Muskox who is sick at home. So the two decide to make their friend some healthy soup. With Kalla's caribou meat from the family freezer they decide they need vegetables. At the grocery store they follow their list but one friend decides they need some fun foods. When they meet at the checkout Kalla helps his friend return the junk food and just purchase the healthy choices. The make cooperate and make the caribou stew. When it is cooked the friends take the soup to their friend. All three enjoy the delicious food and Muskox thanks her friends for all their help.
