Description
The Case of the Missing Auntie is the second book in A Mighty Muskrat Mystery series by Michael Hutchinson (Misipawistik Cree Nation). In The Case of the Missing Auntie, Sam, Otter, Atim, and Chickadee, four inseparable cousins from Windy Lake First Nation – and nicknamed the Mighty Muskrats – go to Toronto. Grandpa's missing little sister was part of the 60s Scoop and residential school and like many Indigenous children the government had arranged for her adoption by strangers. In The Case of the Missing Aunt, The Mighty Muskrats have a new case to solve, which is to find grandpa's missing sister. In the city they meet bullies, heroes and unlikely teachers, and learn about First Nations children in the city. They also learn about the government’s First Nation adoption process and visit the Truth and Reconciliation offices in their search for their aunt. In their search the Mighty Muskrats meet helpful and unhelpful government officials, make friends, and see the City in a different light all the while looking for their auntie.
